Jake's Work Experience
23 07 2011

I had an excellent time at Heat. I loved meeting the team, talking ‘Mac’ with Charles, being sent of to exciting Goswell Road shops for aspirin, keys & flowers and celebrating my 18th birthday lunch. On my first day I was plunged in at the deep end, being asked to draw up bathroom elevations, but I soon got my bearings. After a day’s perseverance I was creating floor plans, sections and elevations in Vectorworks. I was amazed by how everything still needs to be laboriously drawn line-by-line in CAD programs; it’s a very technical and time-consuming skill and I can’t help but wonder what the future for architecture holds.
My site visit to Islington was great. I was shown around by Michael, which involved wearing a hard hat, having the building processes explained to me and watching out for any safety hazards. I was supposed to be taking site photos but was more interested in still lives involving the builder’s tools. Loved the tech, loved the team & loved the office, thank you Charles, Michael, Diogo and Carena for a thoroughly enjoyable and revealing work experience.

Harley Street Handover
06 04 2011
Harley Street, London: Our clients bought a former surgery in a grade II listed building. It was hugely rewarding to restore this rather neglected gem back to its original use as a home. Stretching over the ground floor and basement, there had been an intractible damp problem that had left the interior quite depleted. The basement slab turned out to be two inches of weak concrete poured over the original sand and ashes from the basement kitchen. A complete tanking system together with a whole house ventilation unit and underfloor heating has made the basement a warm, welcoming and healthy environment.

Algarve, Portugal

Our design for the new house in the Algarve is maturing and we wanted to share this model with you. The house has a central core clad in Corten steel which leads from the entrance to a reflecting pool with views out over the landscape beyond. Planning restrictions in this part of Portugal specify only the size of the development not the aesthetics which allows us to be very innovative with the design. Model by Allison Seyler.
