Charles studied at the Architectural Association in London, before being recruited in 1984, at the founding of the renowned London practice Munkenbeck and Marshall.
He worked on a number of high profile projects over the next 14 years, including shops for Yohji Yamamoto and Iceberg, a company headquarters and daylight studio for Metro Imaging and interiors for the illustrator Colin Barnes.
In 1998 Charles completed one of London's largest new-build private house projects with a value of over £5m at The Bishop's Avenue.
Urban projects include work with the architect Aldo van Eyck (published Casa Bella) and the recent competition for the Commonwealth Institute in London.
His work is influenced by a childhood in Rome in the 1960’s. “It was a place and time that combined fantastic elegant economy in design with the decaying historical urban fabric in a coup de théâtre”
